Approximate timings couples work to. Shift everything earlier for a destination wedding or a peak-season date, and later if you are printing digitally at home.
9–12 MONTHS BEFORE
Save the dates
Send once the venue and date are confirmed. Earlier for a destination wedding or a bank holiday date.
6–8 WEEKS BEFORE
Invitations and details cards
Six weeks is fine if you sent save the dates, eight to ten if you did not. Three months for a wedding abroad.
3–4 WEEKS BEFORE
RSVP deadline
Set it at least a week before your venue needs final numbers, and put the date on the card rather than only on your website.
3–4 WEEKS BEFORE
Order of service
Confirm readings, music and names with whoever is officiating, then print.
2–3 WEEKS BEFORE
Menus and bar menus
Wait until the caterer has signed off the final wording, then print one per two guests.
1–2 WEEKS BEFORE
Seating chart, table numbers and place cards
Do these last, after the final replies. Leave time for the inevitable two late changes on the day before.
ON THE DAY
Welcome sign and signage
Printed in advance, but hand them to whoever is setting up rather than carrying them yourself.
WITHIN 2 MONTHS AFTER
Thank-you cards
Easier if you write the list as gifts arrive rather than afterwards.
