When Should You Send Wedding Invitations?

The short answer

Post wedding invitations six to eight weeks before the day. That is early enough for guests to book time off and travel, and late enough that nobody forgets.

If you sent save the dates, six weeks is plenty. If you did not, aim for eight to ten.

Destination and peak-season weddings

For a wedding abroad, send invitations three months ahead so guests can book flights at a sensible price.

For a bank holiday or high-summer date, add two weeks to whatever timing you had planned — accommodation nearby fills first.

Setting the RSVP date

Ask for replies three to four weeks before the wedding, and at least one week before your venue needs final numbers.

Put the RSVP date on the invitation or details card, not just on your website. It is the single line that saves you chasing people.

Short engagement?

Under three months, skip save the dates entirely and send the invitation as soon as the venue is confirmed. A digital invitation sent the same week beats a printed one that arrives two weeks before.
