Wedding Stationery Checklist: What Do You Actually Need?
A plain checklist of the wedding stationery most couples need, what each piece is for, and which pieces you can skip without anyone noticing.
Before the day
Save the date: names, date, town or venue, and a note that an invitation follows. Nothing else needs to be on it.
Invitation: the formal ask, with who is hosting, the date, the ceremony time and the venue.
Details card: travel, parking, accommodation, timings and dress code. Keeping this off the invitation is what keeps the invitation readable.
RSVP card or RSVP line: either a card to post back or a line pointing guests to a website, email or phone number.
On the day
Welcome sign: greets guests and confirms they are in the right place.
Order of service: the ceremony running order, readings and music.
Seating chart: one board listing tables and names, usually near the reception entrance.
Place cards and table numbers: the pair that gets people seated without a queue.
Menu and bar menu: one menu per two guests is usually plenty.
What you can skip
Programmes for a short civil ceremony, favours tags, and separate directions cards when your details card already covers travel.
If budget is tight, prioritise the invitation, details card, welcome sign and seating chart. Those four do the most work.
